MARK D. NEVINS, PhD

Mark is a trusted advisor to CEOs, Managing Partners, and other senior leaders, especially at critical inflection points for their organizations or in their careers. He has spent more than two decades helping executives and their teams improve leadership and governance; make better decisions and drive better performance; and lead critical change when the stakes are high.

His clients say Mark challenges their assumptions and guides them to think differently about their strategic direction and execution by better engaging their stakeholders and boards, developing stronger talent and succession planning, and creating more effective and accountable organizations.

Mark is President of Nevins Consulting, a boutique firm that serves its clients in three areas:

  • Senior-Level Leadership Development: Executive assessment and coaching, with a focus on leadership transitions such as onboarding, promotion, mergers/acquisition, and large-scale change.

  • Executive Team Alignment: Enhancing the performance and productivity of senior teams and boards, including articulation of strategy and priorities; improving team dynamics; and design/facilitation of strategic off-sites.

  • Organization Development: Expert support on organizational strategy and design; talent development and succession planning; communication and cultural change; and the design and delivery of top-of-the-house leadership development programs.

The firm’s clients range from Fortune companies to smaller privately held high-growth firms. Well-known clients include AB-InBev, American Express, Citibank, Ford Motor Company, Guardian Life, Google, MongoDB, Moody’s, NBCUniversal, Reed Elsevier/RELX, Schlumberger, Sony, Thomson Reuters, Tory Burch, and Voya. Mark has a particular passion for and expertise in working with the most senior leaders in private equity, management consulting, and higher education.

A contributor to The Harvard Business Review and Forbes, Mark’s published books include What Happens Now? Reinvent Yourself as a Leader Before Your Business Outruns You, which illustrates the barriers to success leaders inevitably face and the tools to overcome them, and The Advice Business, a comprehensive overview of the tools and frameworks of strategy/management consulting. Earlier in his career Mark taught at Harvard University for nearly a decade. He earned his Ph.D. in English Literature from Harvard, during which time he received awards for his teaching as well as scholarships for research and study in the United States and abroad. He graduated with honors from the College of the Holy Cross.
